Visit Villa San Michele, the “Church of Wine” of Ugolini Vini

degustazione vino valpolicella

A sacred place for wine lovers in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, with breathtaking views, symbolic design, and truly unique bottles.

In the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, where the vineyards form a natural amphitheater among olive trees, cherry trees, and cypresses, lies Villa San Michele, the home of Ugolini Vini. An ancient residence, suspended between history and landscape, that now opens its doors to visitors as a true “wine church.”

Villa San Michele: the story of a historic home reborn for wine tourism in Valpolicella

The Ugolini family has spent the last twenty years carefully and respectfully restoring the villa, guided by a single ambition: to create a true “sanctuary of wine.”Built in the 12th century as a residence for the tenants of the Abbey of San Zeno, Villa San Michele has always been deeply connected to the land and its care.

Once known in the local dialect as San Micheléto, the area takes its name from the Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, still visible at the top of the hill.

Over the centuries, Villa San Michele has lived many lives: from medieval agricultural court to Austrian army barracks during the 19th-century Lombard-Venetian Kingdom — as evidenced by the imperial crest that still watches over the main entrance. Today, it stands as a place of choice for wine tourism in Valpolicella, restored with both respect and poetry.

“Every corner of this villa holds a piece of our heart,” says Giambattista Ugolini, founder of Ugolini Vini. “Restoring it with my brothers and dedicating a room to our father, Angelo, was one of the most meaningful moments of our lives.”

Wine tasting in Valpolicella: a complete sensory experience

At Villa San Michele, hospitality is a philosophy, balanced between nature and architecture. Every detail of the villa reflects this vision: from antique furnishings to the Prun Stone floors, everything speaks of a timeless, understated elegance — the same elegance found in Ugolini wines, known for their harmony, finesse, and depth. The architecture of wine blends with the land, becoming a tangible expression of the terroir.

Even the subtlest details contribute to a truly unique atmosphere: a majestic table clad in Florentine brass, a marine stone pyramid inspired by Mayan art and inlaid with fossils, pearls, and shells from the Valpolicella hills.

Seated under the portico or on the panoramic terrace, with a glass of Amarone, Ripasso or Valpolicella Classico in hand, guests enjoy an authentic sensory experience. Every wine tasting by Ugolini Vini is a slow, curated, intimate moment: an inner journey through flavors, silence, and wonder.
