Ugolini’s Amarone Valle Alta is the ultimate expression of Valpolicella: drying, terroir, and passion converge to create a complex and unforgettable wine. Taste it at Villa San Michele.
It’s iconic, elegant, and intense—but that’s not all: it boasts an exclusive vineyard, nestled mid-slope, with commanding views over the Fumane Valley. We’re talking about Ugolini Vini’s Amarone Valle Alta, one of the finest expressions of Valpolicella, which masterfully marries elegance, power, and depth. This is a wine born from a demanding yet generous soil that rewards those who respect its rhythm: the limestone and marl force the vines to give their absolute best, yielding grapes of extraordinary concentration.
An Amarone Born from a Singular Vineyard
Valle Alta is an Amarone that springs to life from a vineyard situated 256 meters above sea level. Here, the complex soil of limestone and marl compels the vine roots to dig deep, imbuing the grapes with great character. The south-east exposure provides precious freshness and acidity, while the 12 km of dry stone walls, a UNESCO heritage site, that crisscross the hillside create a perfect microclimate for slow, harmonious ripening.
The result is an Amarone of rare elegance: a brilliant garnet red. On the nose, sour cherry and dried plum stand out, while the palate reveals ripe red fruits, followed by notes of cacao and toasted coffee. The mouthfeel is enveloping and long, striking a beautiful balance between power and finesse.

Appassimento: The Heart of Amarone
The soul of Amarone della Valpolicella is Appassimento, the centuries-old technique that transforms the grapes into enological masterpieces. After harvest, the Valle Alta grapes are meticulously hand-selected and placed in the fruttaio(drying room) for approximately three months. During this time, they lose up to 30% of their weight, which concentrates the sugars, aromas, and polyphenols.
Appassimento gives Amarone its unmistakable structure: intensity, elegance, and a complexity that slowly unfolds, sip after sip. It is the same practice that also gives life to Recioto, the traditional sweet wine, but in Amarone, it finds its most noble and austere expression.
For Ugolini Vini, Appassimento is nothing short of a sacred ritual that safeguards the identity of Valpolicella and continues to make Amarone one of the most iconic and sought-after Italian wines in the world.
"We are at the close of the 2025 harvest, a vintage that shows great promise in terms of quality, even though it wasn't easy from a climatic point of view. We can't wait to taste the Amarone 2025 with you in a few years," says Giambattista Ugolini, the company’s founder.
